Short Biography
Dr. Adriano Focus Lubanga is a Medical Doctor, Physician-Scientist, and Senior Research Fellow & Research Programs Lead at Clinical Research Education and Management Services (CREAMS), Malawi. His research focuses on infectious disease epidemiology, One Health, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), implementation science, clinical trials, vaccine delivery, outbreak preparedness, and health systems strengthening in resource-limited settings.
His work spans the prevention, control, and management of infectious diseases, including cholera and other epidemic-prone diseases, antimicrobial-resistant infections, and vaccine-preventable diseases. He is particularly interested in translating epidemiological and clinical evidence into effective interventions, policy, and practice.
Dr. Lubanga leads and contributes to multidisciplinary research programmes involving government, academic, clinical, community, and international partners. He serves as Principal Investigator of the EQUIP HPV vaccination implementation project and Site Principal Investigator for the HUNADIA Phase III Cholera Clinical Trial. He also contributes to antimicrobial resistance and One Health initiatives through national and regional technical working groups and serves on the Medicines Committee of the Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority of Malawi.
His broader research interests include outbreak analytics and transmission modelling, antimicrobial stewardship, equitable vaccine delivery, implementation research, research capacity strengthening, health systems resilience, and the relationship between environmental and societal factors and infectious disease transmission.
Dr. Lubanga is committed to strengthening locally led research capacity and translating evidence into measurable improvements in population health across Malawi and Africa. He has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed scientific publications and actively contributes to scientific collaboration, mentorship, policy engagement, and public health capacity strengthening.
