Alexander G Mathioudakis

Alexander G. Mathioudakis MD, PhD, FHEA, FRCP, FERS, is a Senior Lecturer in Respiratory Medicine at the University of Manchester and an Honorary Consultant Respiratory Physician at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. His work focuses on chronic airway diseases, particularly COPD, including personalised management and treatment strategies, at the interface of clinical research, evidence synthesis, and guideline-relevant decision-making. He has published over 175 peer-reviewed articles, with more than 32,000 citations and an h-index of 55 (Google Scholar). His research has informed national and international clinical guidelines and regulatory and policy decision-making, and he is Principal Investigator of a major NIHR Health Technology Assessment (HTA)–funded programme (NIHR152516). He holds several leadership roles within the European Respiratory Society (ERS), serving as Chair of Group 5.1 (Airway Pharmacology & Treatment), a member of the Advocacy Council and Guidelines Working Group, and Chair of an ERS Task Force developing a core outcome set for COPD maintenance management. He is also a member of the British Thoracic Society COPD Specialty Advisory Group and Chair of the DisEntangling Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Exacerbations: An international clinical trials NETwork (DECODE-NET). He has contributed to European grant evaluation panels, including the ERA4Health EffecTrial call, and serves on the editorial boards of leading respiratory and evidence-based medicine journals.
