Short Biography

Andreas Meisel is Professor of Neurology and Senior Physician at the Department of Neurology with Experimental Neurology and the Neuroscience Clinical Research Center at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. He serves as Director of the Center for Stroke Research Berlin and Head of the Integrated Myasthenia Gravis Center. He studied medicine at the Medical Faculty (Charité) of Humboldt University of Berlin and was an EMBO fellow at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel.

His group discovered the phenomenon of stroke-induced immunodepression. Research in his laboratory focuses on experimental and clinical neuroscience, with particular emphasis on cerebrovascular and neuromuscular disorders, immune mechanisms in stroke and myasthenic syndromes, biomarker-guided precision medicine, and the development of novel therapeutic and comprehensive care approaches. His team is actively engaged in translational research aimed at advancing individualized patient care.

Dr. Meisel is Chair of the Berlin Stroke Alliance, Chair of the Post-Stroke Care Commission of the German Stroke Society (DSG e.V.), Chair of the German Association for Research into Myasthenic Syndromes (VEMSID e.V.), and serves on the Medical Advisory Board of the German Myasthenia Society (DMG e.V.).
