Short Biography
Since medical school Dr Bellasi has developed a strong interest in mineral metabolism abnormalities and their impact on the cardiovascular system in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and normal kidney function individuals. After various internships at University Hospitals in Spain, Sweden, and Italy, he graduated from the Medical School of the University of Milan, Italy, in October 2002. He finalized his post-graduate training in Nephrology and graduated from the University of Milan in November 2007. He attended a cardio-nephrology research fellowship at Tulane University in New Orleans (LA), U.S.A., and at Emory University in Atlanta (GA), U.S.A.. Furthermore, Dr Bellasi successfully completed a master in Epidemiology and Statistics at the University of Milan in 2009 and a postgraduate doctorate in Physiopathology, Pharmacology and Therapy of Metabolic Diseases at the University of Milan
From 2009 to 2011, Dr Bellasi served as a Nephrology consultant at Azienda Universitaria-Ospedaliera Sant’Orsola-Malpighi in Bologna, Italy. From April 2011 to June 2018, he served as a Nephrology consultant at Ospedale Sant’Anna, ASST-Lariana di Como, Italy. From July 1st, 2018, he served at the Research, Innovation and Brand Reputation, and from November 1st, 2018, he was the medical director of the Clinical Trial Center (CTC) at Ospedale di Bergamo, ASST Papa Giovanni XXIII, Bergamo, Italy. Since April 1st, 2021, he has served as a Nephrology consultant at Ospedale Regionale di Lugano, Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale.
He is a co-author of more than 230 publications (H-index 48, i10-index 141, citation 9370, source: Google Scholar, March 11st, 2025 – ORCID 0000-0001-7830-1645) mainly focused on screening, imaging, prevention and treatment of vascular calcification and mineral metabolism abnormalities. Dr Bellasi is coauthor of numerous abstracts presented in numerous national and international meetings. His research has been published in journals as Kidney International, Nephrology Dialysis and Transplantation, clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, Hypertension, American Journal of Cardiology, American Journal of Kidney Disease, Current Opinion in Nephrology and Hypertension and Current Opinion in Cardiology. In 2020, Expertscape’s PubMed-based algorithms place dr Bellasi in the top 1% of scholars writing about Chronic Kidney Disease-Mineral and Bone Disorder over the past 10 years. In 2024, dr Bellasi was selected as one of the top 100,000 scientists by c-score (with and without self-citations) or a percentile rank of 2% or above in the sub-field based on Scopus data.
