Short Biography

Ayelign Mengesha Kassie is an Assistant Professor in Adult Health Nursing and a Higher Degree by Research (PhD) scholar at The University of Queensland, Australia. He holds a Master of Science in Adult Health Nursing from Addis Ababa University (2018) and a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Nursing from the University of Gondar (2014). Mr. Kassie has developed a strong academic and research portfolio, with numerous peer-reviewed publications across key areas of public health and health systems research. His recent work includes scoping reviews on the application of the positive deviance approach to improve health service delivery and quality of care, as well as studies examining effective coverage of maternal and newborn health services in low- and middle-income countries, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa. His research interests focus on evaluating the quality, equity, and performance of healthcare systems, especially primary healthcare, and on generating evidence to inform practice, research, and policy. He has a particular interest in implementation research, aiming to design, adapt, and scale asset-based, contextually relevant interventions to enhance healthcare quality, access, and utilization in resource-constrained settings. Mr. Kassie is also committed to advancing the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, with a focus on major conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancers including breast and cervical cancer. Through his work, he seeks to contribute to strengthening health systems and improving equitable access to high-quality, effective healthcare services.
