Short Biography
Dean J. Kereiakes, MD, FACC, MSCAI is Chairman of The Christ Hospital Heart and Vascular Institute, Medical Director of The Christ Hospital Research Institute, Professor of Medicine at The University of Cincinnati and Clinical Professor of Medicine at The Ohio State University. He received his medical degree and received the Stella Feis Hoffheimer Memorial Prize as valedictorian of his graduating class at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio. Post graduate training included internship and residency at the University of California, San Francisco, senior residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and Chief Residency at the University of California, San Francisco. He completed fellowships in adult cardiology at the University of California, San Francisco and in coronary angioplasty at the San Francisco Heart Institute and the Sequoia Hospital. Dr. Kereiakes has been the national/international Principal Investigator in trials for FDA approval of more than 30 novel drugs and medical devices. He was the Founder and CEO of the largest cardiology subspecialty group in Ohio (Ohio Heart Health Center) which has become the cardiovascular service line of The Christ Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio. He was the founder and Medical Director of The Carl & Edyth Lindner Center for Research and Education at The Christ Hospital, which is one of the top clinical research sites in the United States. His vision directed the establishment of The Lindner Heart Failure Treatment Center at The Christ Hospital in 2005, which is a 30-bed in-patient unit dedicated to the treatment of congestive heart failure. Dr. Kereiakes has performed more than 30,000 catheterization laboratory procedures, including First in Human and First in the U.S. use of novel medical devices.
Dr. Kereiakes has published over 1300 peer-reviewed scientific journal articles, abstracts, and book chapters. He previously served as Section Editor for Circulation and is currently Deputy Editor of Journal for the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Intervention. Dr. Kereiakes has served on the Editorial Boards of every major cardiovascular journal in the U.S. He has been recognized with the “Master” (MSCAI) distinction by The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions and has received both the Scottsdale Interventional Forum Lifetime Achievement and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Intervention Helping Hearts Lifetime Achievement Awards. He was named an Outstanding Alumnus at The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and has received an Honorary Doctor of Science from the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Kereiakes has also received the highest level of recognition from the University of Cincinnati Alumni Association, the William Howard Taft Medal for significant achievement. He was honored with the Samuel Kaplan, M.D., Visionary Award from the American Heart Association and was selected for the Cincinnati Business Courier Healthcare Heroes Innovator Award for both 1998 and 2025. He has been named to Best Doctors in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the World.
