Short Biography

Donna Ryan, MD is Professor Emerita at Pennington Biomedical in Baton Rouge, LA, USA where she led the obesity and nutrition clinical research programs for 25 years. She was an Investigator on POUNDS Lost, Look AHEAD, DPP, DASH and many other studies of the health benefits of weight loss by diet, lifestyle intervention and medications. She was co-chair of the SELECT study, the first cardiovascular outcome trial demonstrating disease modification with semaglutide in persons with obesity without diabetes. She is an active member and former President of The Obesity Society (North America) and World Obesity Federation. Dr. Ryan is a member of several Data Safety Monitoring Boards for obesity medications in development. She advises more than 20 companies about development of drugs, devices and lifestyle interventions for obesity. She has more than 300 publications and is a frequent speaker on obesity and diabetes treatments.
