Short Biography

Dr. Ehsan Mostafavi completed his PhD in Epidemiology in 2009 and joined the Pasteur Institute of Iran. His research focuses on emerging infections including plague, Q fever, tularemia, rickettsial diseases, Crimean–Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF), dengue, and chikungunya in Iran. He has been principal investigator on more than 50 national and international projects and has contributed to 15 scientific books. He has organized over 20 courses attended by more than 800 participants from 40 countries.


Dr. Mostafavi received the Institut Pasteur International Network Talent Award in 2018. He is a board member of the Iranian Epidemiological Association and a member of the Iranian Academy of Medical Sciences. He has served as a WHO temporary advisor on zoonotic infections and as a member of the WHO IHR Roster of Experts on the human–animal interface, and since 2021 has served on WHO’s Technical Advisory Group on Arbovirus (TAG‑Arbovirus).


During the COVID‑19 pandemic, Dr. Mostafavi served on national epidemiology committees, the Management Advisory Council, and the National COVID‑19 Vaccine Committee.

He was appointed Director‑General of the Pasteur Institute of Iran in February 2025.
