Full Professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the Faculty of Dentistry, UFPEL. Graduated in Dentistry in February 1999, holds a Master's degree in Operative Dentistry from the Graduate Program in Dentistry at UFPEL in 2002, and earned a Doctorate in Dental Materials from the School of Dentistry at UNICAMP in 2004. Completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Tissue Engineering at the Dental School, University of Michigan (USA) in 2013. He has been leading the CNPq research group, "BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING, CHARACTERIZATION, AND BIOMATERIALS DEVELOPMENT," at UFPEL since 2004. He is the founder of the Biomaterials Development and Control Center (CDCBio) and has been coordinating the laboratory since 2005. He served as the Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Dentistry from 2005 to 2008 and as the Executive Director of the NIT (Technology Management Agency of UFPEL) from 2010 to 2012, under the auspices of the Office of Research and Graduate Studies. He also served as the Coordinator of Development, Cooperation, and Sustainability at the Office of Extension and Culture (PREC-UFPel) from 2014 to 2017 and as the Director of the Faculty of Dentistry at the Federal University of Pelotas from 2019 to 2022. He is a Permanent Professor in the Graduate Program in Dentistry (PPGO UFPEL, CAPES Rating 6) and the Graduate Program in Science and Materials Engineering (CDTec UFPEL, CAPES Rating 5). He is a Full Member of the INNOVATION, TECHNOLOGY, AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP advisory committee of FAPERGS-RS. According to data from ELSEVIER's October 2023 data update for "Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators," he is among the 1,294 most influential Brazilian researchers in the world (top 2 most cited). In the undergraduate programs, he is involved in the fields of Biomedical Engineering, the development of new biomaterials, Adhesion to mineralized substrates, and Tissue Engineering.
