Farrukh M. Koraishy, MD, PhD, FASN, is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at Stony Brook University. His research focuses on chronic kidney disease (CKD), acute kidney injury (AKI), geriatric kidney disease, and the kidney–brain and mental health axis, with particular interest in cognitive impairment, PTSD, kidney function decline, and outcomes in older and other high-risk populations.
His work integrates longitudinal clinical cohorts, national real-world data, target trial emulation, causal inference, natural language processing, and machine learning to study kidney disease progression and therapeutic strategies. He has led and collaborated on research involving the National COVID Cohort Collaborative (N3C), World Trade Center responders, and studies of CKD in older adults, including relationships between kidney disease, geriatric assessments, cognition, and clinical outcomes. He has received research support from NIH, CDC/NIOSH, Dialysis Clinic Inc., and SUNY and is particularly interested in collaborative clinical research, pragmatic trials, real-world evidence, precision medicine, and healthy aging in kidney diseas
