Short Biography

Dr. Ferran Pellisé completed his orthopedic surgery training at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona. Since 1995, he is entirely dedicated to the surgical treatment of spinal disorders, particularly in scoliosis and other spinal deformities. He serves as the Chief of Spine Surgery at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital, Director of the Spine Service at Hospital Quirón Barcelona, and Professor of Orthopedics with Tenure at Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona.


Dr. Pellisé has authored over 250 peer-reviewed papers. His research in spinal deformities has received prestigious recognitions, including the Hibbs Award (3 times), the Louis A Goldstein Award, and the Whitecloud Award from the Scoliosis Research Society. Moreover, he has been honored twice with the Best Paper Award from EuroSpine-The Spine Society of Europe, the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies, BASS-British Association of Spinal Surgeons, and GEER-The Spanish Spine Society. He contributes extensively to scholarly journals as a board member and served as Deputy Editor of the European Spine Journal from 2005 to 2015. His leadership roles include presidencies in various medical associations, such as the Spanish Spine Society and the Spine Society of Europe, while also serving as a Director at Large, Secretary and President Elect for the Scoliosis Research Society.

Fifteen years ago, Dr. Pellisé co-founded the European Spine Study Group (ESSG) alongside other renowned researchers specializing in adult spinal deformities. Today, the ESSG holds a prominent position as a global platform dedicated to the comprehensive analysis and evaluation of adult spinal deformities.
