Born in Amsterdam, March 9, 1958.

Married to dr. Arina ten Cate-Hoek since 1984; 2 children 3 grandchildren.

Dr. ten Cate-Hoek is also an employee at the MUMC+, where she works as a clinician-scientist in the field of venous thrombosis and post thrombotic syndrome and heads the anticoagulation clinic.

  1. 1987: Graduated in medicine at the University of Amsterdam.
  2. 1987: PhD thesis on “Clinical and experimental studies with a low molecular weight heparinoid”, University of Amsterdam.
  3. 1988-1990: Postdoctoral Fellow at the laboratory of prof Robert D Rosenberg and dr. Kenneth A Bauer, Beth Israel Hospital and Harvard Medical School Boston on mechanisms of inflammation associated coagulation activity.

CAS-AM postgraduate course:

I was the lead organizer of the CAS-AM course (www.cas-am.eu) focusing on complex cases of thrombosis. CAS-AM is a practice-oriented, post graduate education for medical doctors, based on problem-based learning and comprises, among others, small-group teaching, lectures, team projects and close interaction with European leaders in their field. In this highly interactive course faculty and participants mix and debate current and novel thrombosis management aspects, during 2x 4 days of physical encounter, with in-between online personal portfolio development. After 2 editions, 40 participants successfully completed this course with a certificate from Maastricht University.
