Short Biography

Ikuo Tsunoda obtained his MD and PhD degrees from Tohoku University School of Medicine, Sendai, Japan. He continued his research on multiple sclerosis (MS) as a Research Associate at Tohoku University School of Medicine. He trained as a Neurology resident for 2 years under Teiji Yamamoto, MD, Professor at Fukushima Medical University. He also trained in neuropathology under Yuzo Iwasaki, MD, PhD, Professor, at Tohoku University School of Medicine. In 1995, he started working at the Department of Neurology, University of Utah, as a Postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Robert S. Fujinami’s laboratory. At the University of Utah, he was offered a position as a Research Associate in 1999, an Instructor in 2002, and an Assistant Professor in 2005 in the Department of Neurology, and moved to the Department of Pathology as an Assistant Professor in 2007. In 2009, he relocated his laboratory to the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center at Shreveport as an Assistant Professor. In 2015, he was promoted to Associate Professor. He has been certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG)in the US. In 2016, he relocated his laboratory to Japan and became Professor and Chair at the Department of Microbiology, Kindai (Kinki) University Faculty of Medicine, Osaka. His research topics mainly include experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis, HPV vaccines, Theiler’s murine encephalomyelitis virus (TMEV), and microbiota.
