Short Biography
Dr. Keiran Smalley is currently Professor and Donald A. Adam Chair of Melanoma Research at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL. He is also the Director of the Melanoma and Skin Cancers Center of Excellence at Moffitt Cancer Center. He received his PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2000 before undertaking postdoctoral studies at the Institute of Cancer Research, London and the Wistar Institute, Philadelphia. He was recruited to Moffitt Cancer Center in 2008 with an initial focus on the mechanisms of escape from targeted therapy and immunotherapy in melanoma. Currently, his group has diverse interests including a focus on rare melanomas (acral melanoma, uveal melanoma, pediatric melanoma), epigenetic reprogramming in therapy escape and the immune environment of melanoma brain and leptomeningeal metastases. Dr. Smalley has served as a standing member of the NCI MCT1 study section and has Chaired multiple Department of Defense Study sections. He currently sits on the Scientific Advisory Council of the Melanoma Research Foundation and also serves as its Grant SRO.
