Short Biography
Kingsley Emwinyore Agho is a Professor of Biostatistics and Global Health in the School of Medicine at Western Sydney University (WSU), Australia. Professor Agho is a world-leading researcher in global public health, with a particular focus on maternal and child health, maternal and child nutrition, epidemiology, and health service delivery.
Prior to joining WSU in 2008, Professor Agho gained extensive teaching and research experience at the Centre for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (CCEB), University of Newcastle, and the Sydney School of Public Health, University of Sydney.
Professor Agho's research expertise lies in the analysis of health data to identify and address health disparities, evaluate nutrition-related issues, and assess the effectiveness of health interventions. Over the years, Professor Agho has made significant contributions to public health through research leadership and involvement in numerous large-scale community-based cluster randomised controlled trials (CRCTs) and was awarded over $15 million in competitive funding, including seven National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and 2 ARC grants.
Professor Agho is the inaugural Chair of the Global Maternal and Child Health Research Collaboration (GloMACH) and a founding member of the South Asia Infant Feeding Research Network (SAIFRN). Both GloMACH and SAIFRN aim to improve infant and young child feeding practices and reduce infant mortality in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Professor Agho has published over 300 full-length peer-reviewed journal publications (H-Index=74, according to Google Scholar, March 2026), reflecting the substantial impact of Professor Agho's research in the field of global health.
Beyond research achievements, Professor Agho is deeply committed to capacity building and mentorship. Professor Agho is currently supervising 10 PhD students and successfully supervised a total of 30 PhD students (16 as principal supervisor and 14 as co-supervisor), along with 4 Master by Research students. Many of his graduates have secured academic and research positions in prestigious institutions across Australia and internationally.
Professor Agho is an Honorary Professor at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and a Visiting Professor at the University of Johannesburg, both in South Africa. These roles support ongoing collaboration and knowledge exchange in global health research and education.
Professor Agho interdisciplinary expertise and dedication to improving health outcomes have made a tangible impact in advancing health education, influencing policy, and addressing pressing public health challenges in diverse regions, including Australia, South Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa
