Short Biography

I am professor and leader of the Psychosocial Health and Physical Activity (PsyHPA) research group at the Department of Sport, Exercise and Health (DSBG), a research department within the Medical Faculty of the University of Basel. I hold an MSc in Sport Science and a PhD in Health Psychology. I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the School of Human Movement Studies at the University of Queensland and the Institute of Stress Medicine at the University of Gothenburg. My research aims to shed light on factors that influence our mental health. I am particularly interested in whether physical activity can be used to foster resilience against stress and as a therapy to treat stress-related disorders, with a special focus on depression. I also explore biopsychosocial determinants involved in the regulation of healthy behaviors and develop/evaluate personally tailored physical activity coaching programs to facilitate long-term behavior change.
