• Full Professor in Exercise and Clinical Science and Quality of Life at the San Raffaele Open University in Rome.

• Director of the Cardio-Pulmonary Department at IRCCS San Raffaele in Rome.

I obtained My MD degree and cardiology specialisation at the University of Brescia (1990) while my PhD was obtained at the University of Cagliari (2011).

My main research interests include heart failure, exercise training in cardiac rehabilitation, telemedicine, hyperkalaemia and kidney failure and, recently, artificial intelligence. I am and have been National Lead as well as Principal Investigator of multiple international clinical trials mainly related to heart failure and his other field of interest.

In the 2024-2026 turn I was Member and Fellow of the Heart Failure Association (HFA) of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and chairperson of the HFA ICARe Committee (Improving Care through Accreditation and Recognition in Heart Failure (ICARe-HF)). I was also chair of the HFA Digital Health and Tele-monitoring Committee as well as a non-voting member of the ESC working group on e-Cardiology.

In 2023 I took part in the ESC Guideline Task Forces for the management of arterial hypertension while in 2022 I was part of the ESC Task-force for the Guidelines for the management of patients with ventricular arrhythmia and prevention of sudden death.

I am President of the Italian Society for Heart Failure (ITAHFA), member of the Italian Ministry of Health Network for IRCCS Cardiology Research Hospitals and expert in the Scientific Advisor Group for the European Medicines Agency.

Finally, from 2022- to 2025 I was Editor in Chief of the Monaldi Archive for Chest Diseases, and curretly am Associated Editor of the European Journal of Heart Failure, ESC Heart Failure, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Global Cardiology, Member of the Editorial Board of the Cardiac Failure Review, Reviewer for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Nature Medicine, Cocharne, European Heart Journal, European Journal of Heart Failure, Journal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, European Journal of Preventive Cardiology, Reviewer Editor for Frontiers in Physiology and Frontiers in Sports and Active Living. My current H-Index is 60 (Scopus) and has authored over 290 articles.
