Short Biography

Dr. Michael Pinsky is Professor of Critical Care Medicine, Bioengineering, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Anesthesiology at the University of Pittsburgh and a member of its Center for Military Medicine Research. He is Director Emeritus of the Cardiopulmonary Research Laboratory which he ran for 42 years until 2023. He received his MD from McGill University, post-graduate internal medicine and pulmonary fellowship at Stanford University and advanced physiological at Johns Hopkins. His research interests include cardiopulmonary physiology and the use of AI in healthcare. He has multiple R01s and DoD awards. He has edited 27 medical textbooks, authored >450 peer-reviewed scientific publications, >220 chapters and supported >500 abstract presentations. He is senior editor for of Critical Care and on the editorial boards of Journal of Critical Care and Annals of Critical Care. His applied physiology research has been translated into actionable clinical practice guidelines endorsed by most major acute care medical societies.
