Nathalie M. Mazure is a CNRS Research Director at the Mediterranean Center for Molecular Medicine (C3M) in Nice, France, where she co-leads the Cancer, Metabolism and Environment (CAMEEN) research team. Her work focuses on the mechanisms by which cancer cells adapt to their microenvironment, with particular emphasis on hypoxia, mitochondrial metabolism, and cellular plasticity.
Internationally recognized for her expertise in tumor hypoxia, she has made significant contributions to understanding how cancer cells survive and thrive under low-oxygen conditions. Her research has notably highlighted the role of mitochondria, the mitochondrial channel VDAC1, and its truncated form VDAC1-ΔC in tumor cell resistance to stress and anticancer therapies.
More recently, her research has expanded to the study of primary cilia, tumor metabolism, and their contribution to cancer aggressiveness, particularly in renal and prostate cancers. Her team also develops translational approaches aimed at identifying novel therapeutic targets and biomarkers of tumor progression.
