Short Biography

Roland von Känel, MD, is Full Professor at the University of Zurich and Director of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine at the University Hospital Zurich. He is internationally recognized for research on psychosocial stress, hemostasis, and cardiovascular risk. His work helped establish stress-induced hypercoagulability as a biologically plausible mechanism linking acute mental stress to thrombotic and cardiovascular events. He has also made influential contributions to psychocardiology, inflammation research, and the interface between mental and physical illness. His scholarship has had broad international impact through a sustained and highly cited body of work.
