Short Biography

Samuel Arba-Mosquera completed graduation in Physics (MSc) in 1998. In 2000, joined KERA-Technology, which develops and manufactures LASER-Systems for Refractive-Surgery, where he was responsible for improving performance and safety of the devices as well as reviewing those fundamental concepts for future devices, and assigned to team up with Emory-Vision (Atlanta, GA, US) for custom-surgery development and FDA-trials preparation. In 2004, joined the Research & Development team at SCHWIND eye-tech-solutions as Optical/Visual Researcher, responsible for improving surgical performances and safety issues of the device as well as reviewing those fundamental concepts for future devices. In parallel, completed a Master degree in research in Sciences of Vision at the University of Valladolid with final work “Effects Of Cyclotorsion During Refractive-Surgery”. From 2007 to 2012, he was member of the Research Group “Cirugía Refractiva y Calidad de Visión” at Instituto de Oftalmo-Biología Aplicada (University of Valladolid), where Jesús Merayo-Lloves (MD) was the Preceptor of his research on “Optimised Zernike Terms Selection In Customised-Treatments For Refractive-Surgery”.In 2012 he completed his PhD Degree in Sciences of Vision in the Research Group “Grupo de Investigación Reconocido de Técnicas ópticas de Diagnóstico” (University of Valladolid), where Santiago Mar (PhD) was the Preceptor of his research on “Optimisation of the Ablation Profiles in Customised Treatments for Laser Corneal Refractive Surgery”. More than 140 published papers in peer-reviewed journals in the field of refractive-surgery, 15 contributions in books, or 80 international patent applications, as well as his activities as reviewer for 25 journals on refractive surgery support his expertise.

His current responsibilities and duties include: Innovation Leadership in Biomedical Egineering, Directos of Medical Affairs and Sciences of Vision, Scouting of optimised algorithms for Refractive Surgery, Conception and design of the company products, Design, plan and monitor of clinical evaluations, Training, consulting and support to the clinical investigators, Strategical surveillance and evaluation of nascent technologies in Sciences of Vision, which may be adopted in future products of the company.

As for presbyopia, he has collaborated with Jorge Alió and his group at Visum to develop the PresbyMAX product, with which more than 25000 treatments have been performed to date. At least 8 publications on Presbyopic corrections in peer-reviewed journals include him as coauthor.
