Simone Cesaro, M.D., Pediatrician
Simone Cesaro is a distinguished Italian pediatrician and pediatric oncologist. Born in 1962, he graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Padua in 1988. He completed his specialization in Pediatrics in 1992, also at the University of Padua. Since then, he has dedicated his career to pediatrics, with a particular focus on pediatric hematology-oncology.
In 1994, Cesaro became a clinical assistant at the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Padua, where he started working on pediatric hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). In 1996, he spent six months as a visiting physician at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Sick Children in England.
In 2009, Cesaro was appointed Director of the the Pediatric Oncohematology at the University Hospital of Verona, where he continues to work today. Over his career, he has published more than 400 articles in peer-reviewed journals, focusing on bacterial and fungal infections, viral complications after HSCT, management of central venous catheters (CVC), post-transfusion hepatitis, the use of growth factors, HSCT for pediatric leukemias, and many other areas. He is also active in various scientific organizations, including the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT), the European Conference on Infections in Leukemia (ECIL), and the Italian Association of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology (AIEOP). He has held various leadership roles, such as President of the AIEOP Support and Infections Group and Chairman of the EBMT Infectious Diseases Working Party.
His dedication and contributions to research and clinical practice have had a significant impact on the field of pediatric hematology-oncology.
