Short Biography
Stefano Cacciatore is a geriatrician and epidemiologist, currently a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Florida Institute on Aging, supported by the Ermenegildo Zegna Founder’s Scholarship, and a PhD candidate in Medicine at University College Cork. He earned his medical degree, completed his residency in Geriatric Medicine, and obtained an MSc in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome. Before moving to Florida, he worked as an attending physician at Fondazione Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli IRCCS, providing acute geriatric inpatient care and contributing to community-based programs for chronic disease prevention. His research focuses on healthy aging and the preservation of function across the adult life course. A central focus of his work is intrinsic capacity, a core component of the World Health Organization healthy aging framework that encompasses the physical and mental capacities people can draw on in daily life. He studies its determinants, clinical relevance, longitudinal changes, and relationships with functional outcomes across different aging trajectories. His experience in community-based prevention has also shaped a broader interest in population health and in the biological, behavioral, social, environmental, and policy factors that influence healthy aging and longevity. He serves on the Editorial Board of BMC Geriatrics.
