Short Biography

Walter Lilenbaum has a degree in Veterinary Medicine from UFF (1987), a master's degree in Pathophysiology of Animal Reproduction from Fluminense Federal Universisty, RIo de Janeiro, Brazil (1994), a PhD in Sciences (Microbiology) from Rio de Janeiro Federal University (1998) and a post-doctorate in Preventive Veterinary Medicine from São Paulo University (2006) and in Leptospirosis (Institut Pasteur, France, 2012). He is currently a Full Professor of Bacteriology at UFF - RJ, Brazil. He was a Visiting Researcher at the Spirochete Unit of the Institut Pasteur, Paris, France (2012) and at the University of Oviedo, Spain (2024). He has experience in Veterinary Medicine and Microbiology, with an emphasis on Infectious Diseases of Animals, working mainly on Leptospirosis. He is a Scientific Production scholarship holder of Brazilian Scientific Agency, level 1A and the distintion of "Scientist of Our State" by Rio de Janeiro Scientific Agency (since 2008). He coordinated the area of ​​Veterinary Microbiology at the Brazilian Society of Microbiology (2005-2011) and ​​Tuberculosis and Animal Mycobacterial Diseases at REDE TB (2009-2014). He is currently the Associate Editor of Animal. He has published approximately 300 scientific articles in international journals, as well as chapters in books on Microbiology and Veterinary Medicine. He was Coordinator of the postgraduate program in Veterinary Medicine (Clinical and Reproduction) at UFF (2015-2016) and Coordinator of the area of ​​Veterinary Medicine at FAPERJ (2007-2018). He was also Dean of Research and Vice-Dean pro tempore of Research, Graduate Studies and Innovation at UFF (2015-2023).
