Short Biography

Pascal Bovet is board certified in internal medicine and public health (FMH, Switzerland) and holds a Master of Public Health degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Although having reached retirement age, he currently serves as a senior consultant in the Division of Chronic Diseases at the University Centre for Primary Care and Public Health (Unisanté) in Lausanne, Switzerland. He previously held the positions of Associate Professor and Head of the Noncommunicable Diseases (NCD) Section at the University Hospital of Lausanne and subsequently at Unisanté. He has served as a consultant on NCDs for the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Seychelles since 1988. Over his career, he led numerous epidemiological studies across several countries. He has authored or co-authored more than 400 peer-reviewed publications (ORCID: http://orcid.org/0000-0002-0242-4259) and co-edited a reference book on NCDs, available in OA in 4 languages (www.routledge.com/9781032307923). Dr Bovet has acted as a technical adviser to WHO, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, World Bank, and other international agencies, including in relation to national NCD action plans, tobacco control legislation, fiscal policies on tobacco and sugar-sweetened beverages, and clinical guidelines for the management of hypertension and diabetes. He collaborates with several global NCD initiatives, including with Imperial College London (NCDRisk), Shandong University (China), Harvard University, and Loyola University Chicago. He led or contributed to the organization of several residential global NCD training programs, including with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and WHO.
